Epic Games Store Expands to Mobile. Fans of Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League will soon have the opportunity to enjoy these popular games on their mobile devices, marking a significant expansion in Epic’s vision for cross-platform play and accessibility.
Fortnite Legal Battles
Because of Fortnite attempted to escape Apple’s and Google’s in-app purchase restrictions for its in-game money, V-Bucks, the game was taken down from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Since then, Epic Games Apple and Google have been engaged in a legal dispute in which the former claims the latter two unlawfully restrict competition and overcharge developers for the applications, games, and in-app and game purchases they make.
After the EU implemented the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple was urged to permit third-party app stores on iOS and iPadOS. Less than half of what Apple and Google charge is the maximum commission that the Epic Games Store will charge developers 12%. According to the CEO of Epic Games, this will compel Apple and Google to lower their commissions.

“The tide is turning and the mobile ecosystem is finally opening up to competition. We are grateful to the European Commission for making it possible to launch the Epic Games Store and offer our games to iOS users in the European Union. Now European iOS users and all Android users can access our store and games, as they’ve always been able to do on open platforms like PC and Mac. The fight is far from over, but this is tangible progress for developers and consumers who can begin to benefit from competition and choice.”
